Dirk Pretorius
Elder, UK, Global University for Lifelong Learning
Dirk Pretorius has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Global University for Lifelong Learning for his contribution to leadership development and for his support to GULL. Dirk has been involved in leadership development in organizations for fifteen years. Initially, he was responsible for management training in Unilever Southern Africa for 5 years. Since then he has established himself in the UK/European environment, first as a senior consultant with an Oxfordshire-based consultancy, and for the past eight years he has run his own training consultancy. He works with both public and private sector organizations, focusing on change management, team effectiveness and professional communication skills. In order to achieve sustainable change, Dirk uses systems thinking approaches in his work, which integrate well with action learning principles and practice.
Affirmation of support for GULL:
I have known and worked with Dr Richard Teare for 10 years, and have always been impressed with the strength of his vision for building a culture for work-based learning, using action learning. With Richard and his colleagues I was involved as a facilitator of Masters-level senior management learners, and I experienced the power of the action learning process in breaking down barriers, both within the learner and in the learning environment. Richard Teare’s GULL process takes this to the next level, and I am pleased to see a broader range of people beginning to benefit from the personal empowerment that action learning offers.
