Marie Dayton

Marie Dayton has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Global University for Lifelong Learning for her distinguished work in the field of Education and Training and with the underprivileged. Marie has a diverse cultural background and a wide range of national and global strategic alliances and professional networks. Her work experience ranges from service alongside Mother Teresa in India to teaching, consulting, business management and learning innovation.

Marie held several management and policy development positions in the Catholic education system and in the field of adult and juvenile corrections. She was in the New South Wales Public Service, Australia from 1982-1998 and was Superintendent of Minda Juvenile Detention Centre, Senior Policy Officer, Drug and Alcohol Court Assessment Officer, Specialist Youth Counsellor, Workplace Consultant and Public Service Association Training Officer. In 1998 Marie established her own Regional Training Organization: ASEAN Training and Education Services Pty Ltd.

I am the founder, Institute of Learning & Development Professionals (ILDP) www.ildp.org.au and I am passionate about standards of global excellence for L&D professionals and helping people achieve their potential by recognising their lifelong learning achievements. I am an Executive Board Member of the International Federation of Training and Development Organisations www.iftdo.net and Chair of the IFTDO Sustaining Development Committee and CEO of the College of Lifelong Learning Pty Ltd. In these contexts, I am a champion for GULL both as an enabler of lifelong learning and development for L&D practitioners and as a system to support workplace and community development among the low paid, disadvantaged and the poorest. GULL offers access and opportunity for all and this is a priority for me. I shall do all I can to interlink GULL’s mission and system with the global networks that I serve.
