Samson Lowa

The Right Reverend Sir Samson Lowa, Head of the United Church of Papua New Guinea (PNG) has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Global University for Lifelong Learning for his contribution to community development and for his support for the ‘Personal Viability’ (PV) training for life programme and GULL. In 1994 he asked Samuel Tam if he could assist Boroko United Church by developing an entrepreneurship training programme and in response, Samuel developed the PV concept. Thereafter Samson played a key role in encouraging the development and adoption of PV, now PNG’s most successful grassroots training programme. Samson became Moderator-elect of the United Church in 1996 and Moderator in 1998.
