John Wicks

John WicksIn appreciation of John Wicks for his service to the University. John served as Regional Vice President, Australasia.

Following staff training in an Australian bank, John set up a college for bankers in Papua New Guinea (PNG). He later taught management in a PNG government college serving as a lecturer and later principal lecturer. On returning to Brisbane, he established a management development consultancy practice and on meeting the late Reg Revans, the pioneer of action learning, John decided to adopt action learning methodology. He joined a newly formed branch of a multinational business school whose president was Reg Revans at the time. He served as the school’s Australian Registrar, Dean and finally the School’s Principal. During this period he conducted action learning management development programmes in Australia, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia and Vanuatu.

Commenting on his role with GULL, John observes that: "Using action learning processes to help develop managers and potential leaders has inspired me over the past 25 years. To witness the positive change in people and see the significant outcomes for the participants’ organization or business has provided great satisfaction. Through GULL, assisting those who have the desire, the ability and need to gain a professional degree but are disadvantaged by lack of money or the academic qualifications required by traditional universities is a challenge and a cause I cannot resist."
